The Ministry of Industry and Trade has supported the concept of creating an all-season tyre testing centre in Russia, the ministry's press service reported in its official Telegram channel. The decision on its development was made with the participation of Artur Smirnov, Director of the Department of Chemical Industry of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Such a testing centre is planned to be created on the basis of FSUE NAMI. Earlier, the need for such a centre was stated by Russian tyre manufacturers.

"The companies' demand for summer tests for 2025 exceeds 3,000 sets, and it is growing by 10 per cent annually," the ministry said.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade notes that the capacities of FSUE NAMI include many laboratories, test benches and road facilities. In addition, the organisation has the necessary technology to carry out various types of tests.

After the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions in 2022, most of the foreign tyre manufacturers that produced car tyres in our country stopped working in Russia. After some time, the stopped enterprises started working again and producing tyres under new brands.

Oleg Rastegaev, a tyre tester for Avtorevu, notes that in order to create new tyre models, apart from factories, engineering centres and testing grounds are needed. All foreign manufacturers of car tyres have them abroad.

According to the expert, until 2022, many Russian tyre manufacturers tested their models at foreign testing grounds and testing centres. Then this practice stopped, and now Russian tyre manufacturers conduct some tests at testing grounds in China and other friendly countries.

Experts support the decision to create an all-season tyre testing centre. Without it, it will be extremely difficult to develop new models of domestic tyres. However, its creation on the basis of the existing test sites will require serious improvement.

According to Rastegaev, the creation of such infrastructure on the basis of FSUE NAMI will not take too much time and will not require huge investments. But the creation of an all-season tyre testing centre will require substantial investments, he notes.

The emergence of an all-season tyre testing centre will have a positive impact on the industry as a whole, and will also make it possible to maintain acceptable prices for Russian tyres, according to JSC Kordiant.

Increasing the number of tests of new components, tyre models, promising and experimental technologies will accelerate their introduction and help the technological development of the Russian tyre market. Creation of an all-season tyre testing centre will reduce logistic costs of manufacturers, which will have a positive impact on the cost of final products.
